Today has been a day of steady cruising. Partly cloudy, 10C with 30 knot winds, and moderate sea of 2.5 metre waves. Very comfortable conditions.
Took in a lecture on our next two ports of call at 9.30. Then at 10.15 the Captain and First Officer were in Dazzles Bar for a Q & A session which was very informative. These sessions are a bit slow because everything has to be said in both English and Spanish. Some speakers can do their own translation, and just keep the banter going with translations every sentence or two. Others need a translator to do the job for them. Somehow, the Spanish bit always seems to take twice as long as the English bit! We learned that all crew are on contracts: the Captain for 10 weeks, most officers for 3 months, and general staff 6,8 or 9 months at a time.
After lunch and a nap, we were entertained in the Stardust Theatre with a Crew Talent Show. Some very enjoyable acts by staff from the restaurants, laundry, technical crew etc.. A very nice Balinese dance by 2 Indonesian girls; a traditional Filipino dance between bamboo poles; a couple of solo singers; a guitarist; and a skit by the Cruise Director's staff to end it all. The theatre was packed for this once only show. Then it was time to change and head for the gym: usual 30 minutes on the treadmill under the watchful eye of the gym supervisor.
Before dinner I took in the Amber Strings playing Vivaldi in the Atrium Bar. All the musical sessions are programmed for 45 minutes. Had dinner in the Four Seasons Dining Room. Corn Fritters (2 the size of 50 cent coins); grilled flounder with lettuce and onion; raspberry panna cotta. Beautifully presented and very tasty. I have to confess one is a little tempted to sneak into the buffet afterwards to top up!
Am just back from Dazzles Bar where the production crew got to sing the "Songs we Love" .. Their own choice of solos, duets or group items. Still a bit too loud for my liking, but tuneful.
So plenty to keep one occupied on a day at sea. I just took in what appealed to me. Lots more on offer though.
Gave the camera a day off .. So no photos today.
