Copenhagen 1–26 May

A transition day.  Up early and had breakfast before walking around to the central rail station.  The airport for Oslo is 45km outside the city (no aircraft noise to worry the good citizens!).  The Airport Express train whisks you out there in 20 minutes at 200 kph.  Usual security nonsense of no belt or shoes, and we got away on time at 10.20 am with SAS.  Flight only took an hour.

Copenhagen is a $50 taxi ride from the airport.  My hotel is in city centre, just around the corner from the harbour.  So far have only wandered the local area to get a feel for the place.  Tomorrow will do the grand tour.  So much to see, will only have time to take in some of it.

Am still taken back by the price of food in Scandinavia.  In Oslo I had a sandwich and orange drink for lunch: less than $10 at home; $22 here.  Dinner tonight (salad, spaghetti and meat balls, cotta and a  beer) $40. Not so bad as the $80 hit in Oslo.  But there are hundred of little eating places, all seem crowded;  so the locals must be used to paying these prices (which does include a 20% VAT).

Just a few snapshots here.

You are a genius to get that sorted so quickly, Ron. I always carry my credit cards separately to my wallet now and take out my licence etc. Isn't it a terrible feeling. I think men are a lot more vulnerable than women as at least we have a bag to protect our "stuff" rather than a pocket. We are about to go into Paris this afternoon = we will meet the Daltons in there for dinner and two other friends. Looking forward to that. Loving your blog. Deb
