Day 27 -- Lima to Cusco

Yet another travel day.  8 am pickup from hotel allowed me to have a decent breakfast first.  Peak hour traffic took nearly an hour to reach the airport.  Flight wasn't until 10.45, so plenty of sitting around to do.  Just an hour to Cusco, into which we had a by bumpy descent.  I wouldn't want to land here in fog or rain or night... The pilot has to circle very close to hills around the town to line up the runway.

Chimu rep was waiting.. A very talkative and informative young man.  He had a full detailed schedule ready for me, and at the hotel got me a hot cup of coca tea before he went through it all
And gave me recommendations for dining tonight.  Strict instructions: no red meat or salad for 24 hours.  And drink lots of water and coca tea.  Hotel is same chain As in Lima and quite comfortable.

I walked up to the city square to look for one of the recommended restaurants, but walked slap bang into a very noisy political demonstration.  Thousands out marching, chanting slogans, banging drums and blowing whistles.  I watched for a bit but decided not to get too close, so found and nice little restaurant where I had mushroom soup and buttered trout with veg and a glass of white wine.  Less than $20.

Free morning tomorrow, then city tour in the afternoon.  Will start the photographic record then.  Is quite chilly tonight and room has a heater.
