What started as a bit of a cough yesterday developed into a mild temperature, cough, runny nose and a hint of congestion. So I have had a quiet day trying to shake it off. Did the 9.30 am lecture on the history of liberation from Spain and Portugal on this continent; then lay in the sun for an hour on the sun deck. The wind finally drove me indoors. A nap after lunch, and then joined the longest queue I have ever been in to retrieve my passport. Late afternoon I fronted the gym for my 30 minutes on the treadmill, though I lowered the speed for the first 15 minutes to avoid coughing. After dinner I went to the Observation Bar on the 12th deck, right at the front of the ship with the Easter moon shining in. Amber Strings played music from the movies. It is 9 pm , so an early night when I finish this.
This ship has a major design flaw. Nearly all the doors are single entry, and open directly onto the decks. Result is that when someone enters of leaves, a gust of wind flows through that area of the ship. Very unpleasant when outside temperature is 6 or 7 degrees. The buffet is particularly bad: there is a door at each end, and with people constantly coming and going there is a draft right through the dining area that you cannot escape. Other ships I have been on tend to have double entry doors: through the outer one into a small lobby, then through an inner door to the inside area. I am blaming this for my being off-colour, although probably it is not the reason at all.
Tomorrow is our last full day on ship. We arrive early in Montevideo. I have signed up for a 3 hour tour of the city highlights because I am not sure I'll feel like too much walking.
Just a few photos today for around the ship. See them Here.
