Filled the morning in with a visit to Castle Hill for a 360 degree view of Townsville and area. Then to the Tropical Museum of Quesnsland where the main exhibit is an excellent display re the journey and wreck of HMS Pandora which was sent from England to capture the Bounty mutineers. Since the wreck was discovered north of Cairns some years ago, a lot of items have been recovered and many are on display here (including some of the officers dinner service). One of the better historic displays I have seen.
I returned the car to Thrifty after lunch having travelled 2520 km in the 13 days. The train arrived on time from Cairns. The first class carriages are very spacious with airline type seats that extend out to be a flat bed. Large screen TV at each seat with choice of movies, TV shows or music. Dinner was a Greek salad, braised steak and mud cake dessert, served with a beer. After we leave Mackay staff will put our beds down and turn off cabin lights until 6 am. Breakfast after Caboolture.
