Slept in till 9 am local, quick breakfast and headed out. Rapid acclimatisation as it was a humid 33C on the pavement. Took the Metro which is easy to use, very clean and modern, and regular ( every 8 minutes). A glass wall lines the tracks with doors that open onto the train when it arrives. All fully automatic - no driver. I bought a day card and since I was offered a seat on a very crowded train, I decided to ride all the way north and work my way back. 40 minute trip. Subway only in the old city. As you ride up the coastal strip it is all elevated, so you get a good look at the place -- better than a tour bus and no traffic. I called in to see the Mall of the Emirates ( move over Garden City). A covered moving walkway connects the metro station to the nearby mall, so getting around is easy, even if a lot of walking is involved. Then I went to the Dubai Mall where is the Burj Khalifa, tallest tower here. Decided not to line up to go to the top as it was a very hazy day ( desert sand?) and visibility poor. Definitely decided no when I saw the ticket price for a 20 minute visit was 400AED ( $125). I plan a walk through the gold souk after dinner.
Lots of constructions going on here, though I did see a few concrete shells where buildings have been begun but work seems to have stopped. Clearly much of this place was mass produced. There are streets after street of identical apartments - like cookies on a tray. Clearly a tourist Mecca.
Car picks me up at 7.30 am for the airport.
And that ends my Mediterranean wanderings. Thanks for reading!
A few random pics of Dubai here.

Well all I can say it's time you came home......p ox
Hi Ron, Pat told me you were away so I looked up your blog and got up to date! Looks like a good trip, subject to cut eyebrows etc. We visited many of the same places in the Aegean back in May, when we did a cruise on Seabourn Odyssey, similar to the Azamara Quest. We may have had better weather at the start of summer! Would like to catch up when you have settled back. Cheers, Denis
Hope you had a look at the indoor ski slopes in the Mall of the Emirates - amazing to have 40 degree heat outside yet people inside rugged up in ski gear and skiing down the slope.
