Was to have had lunch with a journalist who worked in Mackay a couple of years ago: he recognised my accent in ticket queue on Monday at station, and as we had no time to chat arranged to meet today for lunch at an Italian restaurant on Wenceslas Square. Unfortunately a work commitment came up and he had to cancel. However I still went in to the area to grab a bite to eat and wander a couple of the streets till I was feeling like an iceberg and headed back here.
(pic is one of the many towers that dot the city where the old walls used to be)
This evening I went to the opera: a fitting thing to do in a city that claims Mozart as its own. The performance was of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, sung in the original Italian. But there was a difference. It was performed at the National Marionette Theatre of Prague. A truly enjoyable performance too. The puppets are about 1 metre tall, and you can find yourself watching the gymnastics of the puppeteers almost as much as the characters themselves. Small theatre seats about 150 per performance. Transport getting in meant no time for dinner at my local, so I let Colonel Sanders do the honours near the theatre.
Here is a link to a YouTube short clip of the performance:

No house to house garbage collection here: you take your rubbish and sort it into the many bins on the street corners: they take recycling very seriously. (see pic). The other pic is of my favourite local pub.
