Bellissima Roma!
Arrived after a 3 hour train trip via regionale to Florence, then Very Fast Train to Roma Termini. Bought a 7 day public transport card for €24 (very good value), and took the Metro to Baldo degli Ubaldi stop. (Named for a Papal Lawyer who died in 1400.) The apartment is in a gated complex of 5 residential blocks, each of 5 levels. It is just off the ancient Via Aurelia, one of the main roads into Rome in Imperial times. Is nice and quqiuet, modern, and excellent facilities.
After the manager relieved me of his payment, I headed back towards the Metro, grabbed a sandwich, and visited the supermarket to get milk, bread, eggs, bacon etc... Was surprised at how cheap the basketload was, although I had to pay 10 cents for a carry bag (a la Aldi). Fell into a dceep sleep on return, woke at 5pm and headed into the city to pick up ticket for tomorrow's papal audience. Got that from the American church Santa Susanna; the Yank priest advised me to get there 3 hours early. No way am I sitting in the sun for 3 hours just for the sake of a best seat. I'll get there an hour early and take my luck. Decided to eat before getting the Metro back; so sat outdoor at the Piazza Republica and had a nice meal. Watched the chaotic Roman traffic. Never seen so many double decker Hop On Hop Off buses as here. I counted 5 different companies.
Had an email from the cruise line today: they have upgraded me to a stateroom with verandah on Deck 6 ... sounds good
Will put a load of wash on now, watch some TV, and hit the bed early. Am still feeling a bit fluey; if not better tomorrow I will get Br Chris Wills to set me up with his doctor.
No pics today. I was going to make a resolution not to take any photos of a church in Rome. I suspect that will prove less than possible!

Great news about the upgrade....will be able to sit out there and enjoy a couple of nice red wines in the evening. Get to the doctor so you are well and truly over the flu before the cruise.......pat ox
Seriously what is the point in having sisters to boss you around if you take no notice! Why have you not been to the Dr? I gave you specific instructions yesterday!! You need to have drugs to make sure that cold does not escalate. On another matter I am so happy you have been upgraded to a verandah on the Cruise ship. Forget the red wine in the evening as Pat has suggested - breakfast, lunch and dinner - sit back and enjoy.
